Location Info

Glengorm Castle is a nineteenth-century country house located on the northern tip of the Isle of Mull, a few miles northwest of Tobermory in the Inner Hebrides of Scotland. Built in 1860 for James Forsyth of Quinish, the castle was designed in the Scots Baronial style by architects Kinnear and Peddie and sits on a dramatic headland overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.

The castle was constructed after Forsyth purchased the Mishnish estate in 1856 and cleared the existing township to make way for the new house. Local stories surrounding its construction include a well-known legend that Forsyth was cursed by displaced residents and would never live in the completed building; he died in a riding accident shortly before construction finished.

Today Glengorm Castle remains a privately owned family estate on Mull. The property includes farmland, cottages and visitor facilities such as a café and shop in the former stables, while the castle itself has previously operated as guest accommodation and continues to overlook one of the most scenic coastal landscapes in the Inner Hebrides.
