Dogs Trust
Dogs Trust is the largest dog welfare charity in the United Kingdom, dedicated to improving the lives of dogs through rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming. Founded in 1891 as the National Canine Defence League, the organisation began as a campaign against cruelty to dogs and has since developed into a major national charity working to protect and support dogs and their owners.
The charity operates a network of rehoming centres across the UK and Ireland, where abandoned or surrendered dogs receive veterinary care, behavioural support and training before being placed in new homes. In addition to rehoming, Dogs Trust runs neutering and microchipping programmes, educational initiatives and advice services aimed at promoting responsible dog ownership and reducing the number of unwanted dogs.
Through campaigning, welfare projects and community programmes, the organisation works toward its long-standing mission of creating a world in which every dog can live a happy life free from cruelty or unnecessary destruction. Its well-known message “A dog is for life” reflects the charity’s emphasis on responsible ownership and lifelong care for dogs.
