SDAS Rally

Sat 9th December '00
- Sun 10th Dec '00

Location Info

Clashmore is a rural area in Sutherland near Dornoch, surrounded by open farmland, coastal heath, and scattered woodland. Local access consists of minor roads and natural tracks across estate or farmland areas.

Terrain is gently rolling with coastal influence. Surfaces depend on landowner infrastructure but typically include compacted earth and grass.

Course Description

As many of you know, The Queen Elizabeth Forest is a popular holiday destination, which means there are many visitors, summer and winter. They have the right to entry to the foresy at any time and we cannot prevent this, even for a rally. We would ask you to bear this in mind, in the realisation that you might meet a dog walker on the trail.

We would also ask you to please clean up after your dogs, as this good PR (Public Relations, not Poo Reclamation!) Finally, if you could keep all dogs on leads at the race venue to aviod accidents, this would be greatly appreciated. Due to the possibility of through traffic, including people who actually live in the forest, we would ask all competitors to park on the RIGHT hand side of the venue approach road only. There is adequate parking and there is no need to block the road.

Directions

From Glasgow:

Take the A81 to Aberfoyle. Drive along the main street and at end of line of shops, turn left into Manse Road, over the hump-backed bridge. Half a mile outside the village there is a small fork in the road with forestry ’10mph’ signs. Take the right fork at this point. This tarmac road reverts into a grit forestry road. From the fork follow this road straight for 2 miles and you will come to the race site. (SDAS markers will be out).

From Stirling & The North:

Follow the signs to Thornhill and on from there to Aberfoyle. Please keep your speed down when entering the forest!

SDAS

The Sled Dog Association of Scotland

The Sled Dog Association of Scotland (SDAS) is a Scottish organisation dedicated to promoting and organising sled dog sports throughout Scotland. Founded in 1991 by Rick Miller, Neil Brown and Keron Miller, the association was the first group to establish a regular calendar of sled dog events in Scotland and helped place the country on the map within the UK mushing community.

The organisation runs a series of races and competitions each season, providing opportunities for both newcomers and experienced mushers to take part in sled dog sport. Events typically include dryland disciplines such as rig racing, scooter classes, bikejoring and canicross, with races often held over two-day formats that contribute to an overall championship series.

Through organised events, membership programmes and a volunteer committee, SDAS supports a community of sled dog enthusiasts across Scotland. The association emphasises sportsmanship, inclusivity and enjoyment of the sport while providing a structured environment for competitors at all levels to train, race and develop their teams.

In the UK sled dog landscape, SDAS functions as one of the main regional racing organisations, particularly focused on Scotland’s dryland racing scene and championship series events.
