Location Info
Castle Oer in Dumfries and Galloway is an upland rural area containing plantation woodland, moorland, and forestry access tracks. The surrounding forest areas are managed as commercial conifer plantations.
Terrain is moderately hilly, common to the Southern Uplands. Surfaces are primarily forestry aggregate with some natural earth sections.
Course Description
Trail surfaces, typically wide, hard packed dirt forest trails. This is not theflattest of trails, but there again this is Scotland !! it is at a high level which could be good for some snow at this time of year !! If the tempreature drops without any snowfall then boots are recommended (dogs and mushers).
Directions
From North & South:
A74(M) Lockerbie (Jct 17). At roundabout take 2nd exit B7068. At junction with B723 turn left towards Boreland. In 3.5 miles bear left to cross bridge. At Boreland bear left (signposted Eskdalemuir). Follow local signs to Eskdalemuir until you arrive at Castle O’er on the left.
SDAS
The Sled Dog Association of Scotland (SDAS) is a Scottish organisation dedicated to promoting and organising sled dog sports throughout Scotland. Founded in 1991 by Rick Miller, Neil Brown and Keron Miller, the association was the first group to establish a regular calendar of sled dog events in Scotland and helped place the country on the map within the UK mushing community.
The organisation runs a series of races and competitions each season, providing opportunities for both newcomers and experienced mushers to take part in sled dog sport. Events typically include dryland disciplines such as rig racing, scooter classes, bikejoring and canicross, with races often held over two-day formats that contribute to an overall championship series.

The association emphasises sportsmanship, inclusivity and enjoyment of the sport while providing a structured environment for competitors at all levels to train, race and develop their teams.
