BSHRA Tentsmuir Forest Rally

Sat 16th November '13
- Sun 17th Nov '13

Location Info

Tentsmuir Forest in Fife is a coastal pine plantation set over former dunes and flat sandy ground. Managed by Forestry and Land Scotland, it includes long straight gravel forestry roads and sandy paths toward the beach.

Terrain is flat with slight dune-derived undulation. Surfaces range from firm forestry aggregate to sand depending on proximity to the coast.

Course Description

The organisers have laid out an interesting ‘flat’ course with plenty of opportunities to test your Gee’s and Haw’s, with trail surfaces varying from hard packed forest track interlinked with predominantly grass trails to areas of sand which may be used for the larger teams.

These trails are without doubt some of the most ‘dog friendly’ of the championships and boots should not be required. Distances may be altered at the discretion of the organiser and prevailing weather conditions. Follow the signs along the main tarmac road heading for the public car park. The race site will be well sign posted from there.

Due to the layout of the forest, it is sometimes necessary to run the race over part of the access road, which means that the road may be closed during classes. Verify this prior to the race weekend! Forestry gates are sometimes locked after the main car park is opened so it would be advisable to arrive early.

Directions

From Dundee

Cross the Tay road bridge and turn left at the roundabout (B946) signposted to Tayport. Follow the B945 through Tayport. After approximately 2.5 miles turn left towards Kinshaldy beach. Pass Craigie and Rhynd farms before turning left towards the beach (follow the SDAS or BSHRA signs as appropriate).

From Queensferry Crossing

Follow M90 signposted to Perth, take junction 8 signposted to St Andrews (A91). At Guardbridge roundabout turn left signposted Leuchars (A919). Pass the papermill and turn up the hill (signposted RAF Leuchars). Pass the RAF Leuchars main gate and turn right to Kinshaldy beach at the village church. Exit the village and turn right to Kinshaldy beach after approximately 1.5 miles. Follow the signs to the race site.

Please keep your speed down when entering the forest!

BSHRA

British Siberian Husky Racing Association

The British Siberian Husky Racing Association (BSHRA) was established in 1996 by a group of Britain’s leading sled dog racing drivers following the dissolution of the British Sleddog Racing Association. The organisation was created to provide a credible national championship dedicated specifically to the racing of purebred Siberian Huskies in the United Kingdom.

BSHRA focuses on administering its annual British Siberian Husky Racing Championship, held across a winter racing season at established venues around the UK. The series brings together experienced mushers and newcomers alike, providing structured competition while maintaining the traditions of Siberian Husky racing.

Alongside the main championship, BSHRA also recognises a range of additional categories including Rookie Musher, Veteran Team and Junior championships. Through these classes and its annual race programme, the organisation supports participation at every level while promoting the athletic ability and heritage of the Siberian Husky in competitive sled dog sport.
