UK9 Thetford New Year Race

Sat 30th December '17
- Mon 1st Jan '18

Event Info

The UCSC Eastern Open has become as important a tradition in some families as Roast Turkey itself over the Christmas & New Year period.

So when UK9 and Anglian Bikejor got wind of it taking a break this year, we just had to step up to the challenge of hosting it ourselves, with the blessing of the original organisers of course.

Our aim is to to host a weekend of fun and enjoyable racing with a festive theme to see in the new year for humans and dogs. All are welcome to join in with what we hope will be an inclusive and friendly get together.

Whatever your goal, from competitive racing to just getting around whilst enjoying the atmosphere with your canine companions, we trust that you will bring along with you good cheer and leave with great laughs, memories and happy dogs.

Arrive any time after 2pm on 29th December and be gone by midday on 1st January.

Racing will be on the Saturday and Sunday with a relay race on Monday morning to blow those alcohol induced cobwebs away.

You will be able to collect your bibs and timing chips from 7am on Saturday. Then at 8am we will have a Mushers Meeting before the racing starts at 9am.

Location Info

Thetford Forest isn’t just a haven for walkers and wildlife, it’s also a key venue for sled dog racing in the UK. Its vast 18,730 hectares of forest tracks, heathland, and shaded pine trails create ideal conditions for dryland sled dog events, where teams of huskies and other sled dog breeds race on wheeled rigs rather than snow.

Events held here attract competitors from across the UK and Europe. The forest’s well-maintained trail network and natural terrain provide a safe, exciting, and scenic environment for both competitive racing and recreational mushing.

During race weekends, visitors can expect to see everything from elite sprint teams to junior and novice classes, as well as opportunities to learn more about the sport, meet mushers, and experience the unique bond between humans and their dogs.

As with all events in Thetford Forest, marshals and safety signage are in place to ensure a smooth and responsible experience for everyone involved.
