Sled Dog Welfare Lochore Meadows Fundraiser

Sun 8th July '07
- Sun 8th Jul '07

Location Info

Lochore Meadows Country Park is a large outdoor recreation area located in the heart of Fife, Scotland, between the villages of Lochore, Crosshill and Kelty. Covering around 1,200 acres of woodland, meadows and open water, the park is centred around Loch Ore, a freshwater loch that forms the focal point for many of the site’s activities.

The landscape has an unusual history. For much of the twentieth century the area formed part of Fife’s coal-mining heartland, with several collieries operating across the site until the closure of the Mary Pit in 1966. Following a major land reclamation project, the former mining landscape was transformed into a public country park, which officially opened in 1976.

Today Lochore Meadows is one of Fife’s most popular outdoor destinations, attracting large numbers of visitors each year. The park offers a wide range of activities including walking, cycling, watersports, fishing and outdoor education, with facilities such as the Willie Clarke Visitor Centre, an outdoor adventure centre and extensive trail networks throughout the park.
