About NESSR
National English Shepherd Rescue (NESR) is a North American non-profit organisation dedicated to rescuing and rehoming English Shepherd dogs that have been abandoned, surrendered or placed in shelters. Founded in 1997, the organisation was created after members of the English Shepherd community recognised a need for a coordinated rescue network for the breed.
NESR works through a nationwide volunteer network that evaluates dogs, arranges foster homes, transports animals and helps match rescued dogs with suitable permanent homes. The group focuses primarily on purebred English Shepherds but also assists with dogs of similar type that may have been misidentified in shelters.
Alongside rehoming efforts, the organisation provides education and support for owners, breeders and shelters to help prevent dogs from needing rescue in the first place. Through foster care, adoption programmes and volunteer coordination, NESR aims to ensure that no English Shepherd is unwanted, neglected or euthanised for lack of a suitable home.
